Sydney (Part 2)

On our second full day in Sydney we all decided to catch the ferry to the Taronga Zoo. I was glad we had a chance to see the uniquely Australian wildlife…..primarily koala bears and kangaroos. Afterwards we went to The Fortune of War Pub, the oldest pub in Australia since 1828.  I had one of the best best

dark beers I’ve ever had, along with some fish and chips. Later that night, we hooked up again with Ted and Marcia to celebrate Marcia’s birthday. We ate at Harbourview Seafood, a very nice waterfront restaurant. They had kangaroo tartare on the menu so I ordered some for everyone to try. I thought it was excellent…everybody else thought it was barely ok :>

The view from the top of the zoo across Sydney harbor. It actually turned out to be a good weather day.

We actually paid to have a “up close and personal” visit with the Koala Bears. But since they sleep about 20 hours a day, you have to get lucky to see them active. It was cool to see the native Australian wildlife but I also found it a little sad to see them in cages. The Meerkat couldn’t be bothered but the Australian Pelican was clearly begging for a treat.

How bout a little kangaroo tartare mate?!

Happy birthday Marcia!

One of the really cool things about Sydney was the city’s commitment to maintain a lot of the old buildings. In many cases, new structures were integrated into the old buildings. The city also includes lots of trees, parks and various forms of art, especially sculpture (lots of sculpture!), throughout the city. These are just a few examples

And of course, the iconic Sydney landmark…..

Sydney was definitely one of the highlights of the trip for all of us. It’s an incredible city…… I think we’ll be back someday.

Until the next trip, “ga day mates!”
