Great day in Apia, Samoa

Jan 20 – arrived in Apia, Samoa at 7am. Nancy and I hired a driver and went to several beautiful places on the island. First stop was a remote beach on the northwest side of the island. It took an hour to get there but it was worth the drive. The scenery was idyllic….lots of palms and clear blue water.  From there, we went to a spectacular overlook up in the mountains and finished with visits to two very cool swimming holes.

Samoa was absolutely beautiful. It seemed like every house had a yard full of various flowering plants. Even the roads we traveled had lots of flowering vegetation.  The number and variety of flowers was really impressive.

The beach…

The swimming hole….a very deep swimming hole.  Other pics are from the same park

One deep hole!

Nancy hiked down to shore to checkout this tunnel through the lava rock

A scenic overlook….

Final stop today at swimming cave open to the public.

The flowers of Samoa….

Most houses include large open air spaces where families meet and socialize

Entertainment tonight was spectacular….a Cirque du Soleil act. Afterwards we participated in a “adults only” Family Feud game. It was hilarious!

This was easily our best day so far! Tonight we cross over the International dateline again and dock in American Samoa….and it will still be Jan 20!
