Hyannis (not port), and Chatham

Sept 25, 2019 – Cape Cod

Drove to Hyannis today to explore the town and test drive a couple cars…..we may not have a house, but we still have the normal household business. Nancy will be getting a new car soon and she is trying to make her mind about what she wants. She has spent a lot of time  researching mid-size SUV’s  over the last several months and it’s down to a VW Atlas or a Subaru Ascent.

Hyannis was a fairly substantial city. You can tell Hyannis is closer to a big population center……it seemed a lot more like a typical city and not very touristy. The only water we saw was when we checked out the place to catch the high speed ferry to Nantucket and/or Martha’s Vineyard.  We were going to drive by the Kennedy compound in neighboring Hyannisport but we were told its not visible from the road.

After we looked at the Subaru Ascent and VW Atlas SUV’s in Hyannis, we headed up The Cape to a more isolated smaller seaside town called Chatham. The town was first settled in the mid 1600’s. The downtown shopping area isn’t on the waterfront, but it was still a very charming area with some cool shops, small art galleries, tavern’s, and restaurants. We ended up having lunch at The Captains Table right on Main Street on their patio. Great food!

After a nice afternoon hanging  around Chatham, we took the back roads to go back home. It was a nice drive, and a relaxing day. But I have to say that when we are walking around the town shopping, what that means is I am tagging along while Nancy shops. And she is usually not sure what she wants……I guess that’s why they call it shopping.  I was sitting on a bench in front of one store waiting for Nancy when I guy walked over to sit down…..as he approached he asked if this was “the husbands with wives shopping bench”.  I said yes and we chuckled. about it….but of course,  it was true!

Hopefully we’ll have some better pictures tomorrow…..
