Rye Beach, NH

Sept 17, 2019 – North Hampton, NH (Sea Coast Campground and RV Resort)

Last night, an older couple in a big fifth wheel stopped on the road in front of us well after dark at about 9pm. It was obvious he was going to have a hard time getting his rig into the site so I helped him out positioning the rig so it would not be partially blocking the road. They were only staying the night….but it was a good example of why you never want to be pulling into a campground/RV Resort after dark!

Today we took Frisco and visited the 18 miles of oceanfront that is officially part of New Hampshire..  Frisco loves the beach and the water…..she just runs like crazy until we leave. It is such a joy having her with us……

Before we even got to the coast, we started seeing old, but spectacularly renovated, homes. In many cases, homes had been attached to barns. Then we got to the ocean and found a beautiful man made cove area just off the ocean near Rye Beach that was home to a small fleet of privately owned sailboats and fishing vessels. The homes were everything from a beautifully restored old waterfront mansion, to a small coastal fishing cottage.  The whole scene was just so “New Englandy”.  The shoreline had been reinforced with a bunch of rock to protect the homes from ocean swell. I can certainly see why so may folks have summer homes here that are only used 3-4 months a year. Its only mid-September and already many of the homes looked to be closed for the winter.

We had lunch at The Beach Plum restaurant.  Nancy and I split a seafood combo of shrimp, fish and scallops, plus slaw and fries. Its wasn’t cheap but it was darn good, and then portions were more than we could eat. We took the leftovers home.

It’s easy toes why coastal New England in summer has such a great reputation!

Both of us have been a little under the weather the last few days so we came back home around mid-afternoon and took it easy the rest of the day.
