Back to Camden

Sept 9, 2019 – Lake Pemaquid (Damariscotta, ME)

When we got to the campground yesterday, some of the transient and seasonal folks that were in for the weekend were packing up to leave. I’m sure this place is really busy with family campers during the season but by now, it’s “post season”and the campground is only about 25% full. It’s very peaceful setting in the woods next to a big clean lake. It’s a little rough on the edges, but the setting is great and the site services are excellent.

Later in the morning, we headed back to Camden. We passed it coming here but didn’t want to stop with Alice.  So we drove back…..and we’re glad we did. It’s an old fishing village at the end of a well protected harbor just off the Penobscot Bay and Atlantic Ocean. There were a lot of sailboats anchored in the harbor, and plenty of activity in the small downtown area.  We stopped in a local brewery to have some lunch and a beer, and then walked around the shops for a while. We had some periods of clouds but overall, it was a beautiful partly sunny afternoon with temps in the 60’s….so it made the stroll around town just that much better.  We went to a bench area on the waterfront and sat for a while taking in the beautiful view before heading back to the truck for the short trip home. It was a nice relaxing day…..
