Sept 6, 2019 – Bar Harbor / Acadia
First thing this morning, Alice had her first experience having her bowels cleaned out by the resident proctologist, more commonly referred to as the “Honey Wagon”. I’m sure it was a little upsetting…. but it had to be done. Sorry Alice…..
We still have not seen a moose! We may have to go to the zoo! Also, I figure we have eaten about 10 lbs of lobster on our trip so far……and we still have almost another month in Maine and Massachusetts. Nancy is about “lobstered out”, but I really like it so I’m sure I’ll be eating a few more lobster rolls before we leave Maine. Seafood, especially lobster here in Maine, used to be the food for the poor people…..but not anymore. Seafood is getting very expensive. I’m convinced some seafood items will soon be competing with Wagyu beef and other delicacies for the title of “Most Ridiculously Expensive Thing On The Menu”!
Nancy took the shuttle this morning over to the park to do a short 1.5 mile hike called “The Bubbles”. I was just not ready to jump on the shuttle at 9:50am so she went with some other folks from the campground while I took care of a few things here. The free shuttle during “the season” in Bar Harbor, Acadia NP, and the rest of Desert Island is provided free of charge by LL Bean. It really makes it nice if you can handle planning and operating around the shuttle schedule. They even have front and rear bike racks on them! And that’s actually easy to do since it runs every half hour during the day. If you are staying on the island, the shuttle is the most convenient way to get around, parking is at a premium in the park if you don’t get there early.
Nancy got back around 2pm. A little later in the afternoon, it started to get more breezy and chilly so we decided to build an early evening fire. We sat around, warmed up, and enjoyed an adult beverage by the fire. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of sitting around a fire talking, and watching the flames “do the dance”…..
Tomorrow the weather its supposed pretty nasty. We are supposed to get the remnants of Hurricane Dorian. Wind and rain all day but not to enough to get too concerned about. And then sunny blue skies again on Sunday!
**SPECIAL NOTE** Nancy and I really appreciate and enjoy the comments we get from people following our blog. But we need to do a better job responding. So, in the future, we’ll do just that. Keep your comments coming! I hope you are enjoying this “diary” of our travel adventures as much as I enjoy writing it!
