Sept 2, 2019 – Bar Harbor, ME
Pulled out of the Bay of Fundy at about 9:15am and got into our site at Hadley’s Campground in Bar Harbor, ME, at 2:45pm. Got a little rain but not a problem. When we got to the US border, there was a line to get checked back into the US. When we got to the agent, he asked the normal questions about fruits and vegetables, things we had bought, etc……and then asked me to open up Alice so he could could look around inside. At the very least they are probably checking for illegals. I was standing right outside Alice while he looked around (as best he could in a buttoned up 5th wheel). He opened the refrigerator and pulled out a lemon and orange and said he would have to take those. He was a very courteous, professional and friendly agent. He came out, I closed up Alice, and he waved us through.
When we got to our site and started to setup, Nancy came out to tell me that the refrigerator lock had been left unlocked and a lot of the refrigerator contents had fallen onto the floor. Apparently when the border agent opened up the frighted to check contents, he failed to reconnect the exterior handle lock. I should have noticed. Finding refrigerator contents on the floor upon arrival is a first for us. I hope it never happens again. Even though it was a bit of a mess, we actually got very lucky. Other than picking things up and putting them back in the refrigerator, the only issues were a small leak from the grapefruit juice and a cracked mini-watermelon. We got lucky…..it wasn’t nearly the mess it could have been.
Once we finally got settled in, we relaxed for the rest of the day. Nancy made a great Spaghetti dinner. Looking forward to our first day in Bar Harbor tomorrow.
Our home for the next week…..
