Another fundy….!

Sept 1, 2019- Bay of Fundy, NS

Today was a beautiful weather day…..clear skies and temps in the 60’s. Nancy made the quick 5 minute drive back over to the Bay of Fundy park this morning to take a walk, and take a few more pictures of low tide. Most of the great “before and after” pictures are hers. When she got back, we had breakfast and headed back over to hike and catch the high tide a little after 2pm. We tried to capture the profound change that takes place but frankly, pictures just can’t do a place like this justice. All I can say is, it’s obvious that high tide is 44 ft higher than low tide!

Nancy was walking around the campground and spoke to someone that had seen a moose earlier in the day at the edge of a nearby field. But the moose was gone. So we still haven’t seen a moose…….we’ll be in Maine for about 3 weeks so hopefully we’ll see one or more before we leave.  We’ll be doing quite a bit of hiking, so that should greatly improve our chances.

Tomorrow morning we pack up and move to Hadley’s Campground in Bar Harbor, Maine. Looking forward to exploring Acadia NP!  We’ll soon  be back in the good ol’ USA!

Here are a few “before and after” pics from different locations at Hopewell Rocks Park on the Bay of Fundy.   And Kudos to Nancy for getting so many great pictures today!

This sign helped to explain the orange mud. For as far as I walked out on the bay floor at close to low tide, I was on basically fairly flat, solid rock with loose rocks and shallow orange mud……very walkable. But its clear from pictures that the area has vast mud flats…..I bet if you walked a little further than low tide, you’d quickly find much deeper mud.  It must have taken thousands of years to create this much erosion of the sandstone…….

Nice hiking trail

It was really cool to spend a few days in one of nature’s most unusual places.
