August 23, 2019 – Halifax
Yesterday, Nancy told me she thought it looked like Alice’s underbelly might be sagging a little (sorry Alice!). So this morning, I got underneath Alice (I’ll make it quick!) to check it out. Geeezzz….it was a big disappointment to find that she had some spotty leaking that was going straight to her underbelly (Ugh!). And this is only 7 weeks after she had surgery to correct her first leak! Or maybe the first surgery just wasn’t successful…? Looks like a malpractice suit to me unless the leak is in a different area, or the hospital agrees to arrange for the needed repairs at no cost. The more likely outcome? Everybody says its my fault and I get screwed!
But seriously, as any experienced RV’er knows, any water leaks are a BIG DEAL! As mentioned, it’s not a “high volume” leak (yet) because it didn’t take long for the water to drain. We have a week here and frankly, if I had to, I think I could fix it. All I I have to do is take a few things apart to gain access to the plumbing, identify where water is leaking, fix it and put it back together. BUT WHO WANTS TO DO THAT! No worries…..one way or another, we’ll deal with it. I just have to keep reminding myself that RV’s are like rolling earthquakes, and we should expect some issues like this. The truth is, we have been on some bumpy secondary roads and I suspect a water seal has been compromised…..all it takes is a small crack/hole. But, for me, none of that rational thinking makes it any less frustrating when something breaks.
We haven’t had any luck finding a mobile RV Tech yet. I’m going to take a look at a few things tomorrow……I think it may be a shower drain issue. These things really aren’t that complicated if you’re willing to put in some time educating yourself. I’m starting to think the best way to reduce the frustration of RV problems is to get more knowledgable so I can do many repairs myself fairly quickly, and without much physical strain.
Now…..Halifax. The weather was very cloudy today, and Nancy was not feeling very good, which is very unusual for her. Still, she wanted to ride into downtown Halifax and the wharf area to walk around and explore. We went to the Farmers Market , which was very unimpressive. All we saw were food vendors….but we were told it’s much better on the weekends. Actually, the best weekend farmers market in Halifax is just a few blocks away in a grand old building that also houses a brewery. The brewery is called Alexander Keith’s and its one of the oldest breweries in North America. I’m sure we’ll drop in there sometime this weekend for a pint.
We also had a fantastic lunch at a place on the waterfront called “The Bicycle Thief”. Interesting name huh? We asked our waitress about it and she said it had to do with an Italian movie about a guy that would ride a bike everyday to work to take care of his family……until someone stole his bike…….and then………? That’s what we asked but she didn’t know anything more. That’s like only telling the first half of a good joke! C’mon girl! But the food was great, so if we go back one day, we’ll be asking for someone to tell us “the rest of the story”.
We planned to do more today but after lunch, Nancy wasn’t feeling so hot so we headed home. She usually bounces back pretty quick with good food and some rest. Hopefully, she’ll be feeling better tomorrow. We took a few pictures, but nothing that was particularly spectacular! Except Nancy’s picture of course! lol. It was also a very cloudy day today.
Honoring their their fallen soldiers…..
It’s “art” and it’s called “Drunken Lampposts”. They are individually called “Fountain, Get Drunk, and Fall Down”. Per the artists description, “the Fountain’ lamppost shoots a stream of water into the harbour, as though it was relieving itself after a big night downtown. Not far away, ‘Get Drunk, Fall Down’ features another lamppost slumped across the pier, with its concerned friend looking down.” The sculptures were designed to be “nakedly honest portraits of unseemly behaviours that are often playing out on our own streets after dark.” Seems appropriate for a city with one of the highest number of pubs per capita!
