August 18 – 19, 2019 – Baddeck, NS to Lunenburg, NS
8/18 – Today was a bad weather day, with lots of clouds and intermittent showers. We stayed close to home and got Alice ready for the move to Lunenburg first thing tomorrow morning.
8/19 – Today is my little sisters birthday……Happy Birthday Lynne! We got up and hit the road for Lunenburg, which is a small, old, fishing village on the south central coast of Nova Scotia. We got to our site at the Lunenberg Board of Trade at about 3pm. The RV park is owned by the Lunenburg local government, and is located right next to the downtown area and the docks It’s really going to be nice to just use our legs and bikes to get around for the next couple days. Today the weather was cloudy and some light rain until later in the afternoon when the sun finally came out. But it’s supposed to be sunny and in the mid 70’s the next two days.
It was harder than it needed to be to get here……the truckers GPS we use mistakenly took us right through downtown Lunenburg, which required me to make several right and left turns in fairly narrow streets. It was one of most challenging miles I have driven, but with a lot of patience, we made it through with no dings or blown tires. Next, we had to stop for someone at the base of a very steep hill leading up to the RV Park…..which then required us to tow our 16,000 lb. 5th wheel up that steep hill from a dead stop. I’d say this was our RAM 3500’s toughest test yet and I’m glad to say, the truck performed well (glad the road wasn’t wet!). The campground attendant said we could have stayed on the main road coming into into town and made one left turn to get to the park. But I can’t complain much….that truckers GPS has kept us out of bad places for a lot of miles………
Nancy and I walked to downtown and had a nice casual dinner at the Salt Shaker Deli and Inn near the docks. The food was great. Things should start getting more interesting tomorrow.
We just got, here but Lunenburg looks like a really cool town! Like a classic coastal fishing village.
