Today is NANCY’S BIRTHDAY! Happy Birthday sweetie (again)! The adventure just keeps getting better!
Our campground is right on Bras d’Or Lake. The lake is approx. 60 miles long, and 30 miles wide, and is up to 942 ft. deep. It is a half freshwater/half saltwater lake that sits in the middle of Cape Breton Island. It has 3 separate channels to the ocean….the water at the rocky shore is crystal clear.
We’re really glad to be here in Nova Scotia and staying Cape Breton Island. We’ve heard so much about this province and couldn’t be more excited about exploring it for the next 8 days. Unfortunately, when we got up this morning, it was raining. The forecast called for rain until later in the afternoon. So we stayed with Alice in the morning, and by early afternoon the clouds started clearing. By 2pm, we were walking around downtown Baddeck. We checked the town out and looked to see if there were any interesting restaurants for a late lunch. We ended over at the city docks where we saw a small place called The Freight Shed. It looked nice, so we went in……and are we glad we did! Little did we know that we had come upon the best food in town. It’s small with an open kitchen and can have 2 hour waits for dinner. We walked right in at about 3:30. Our meals were outstanding! And we finished with homemade carrot cake. Nancy makes great homemade carrot cake and she said theirs was better than hers. I still think hers is better!
We walked around the dock a little after dinner and headed home. We got home just before we had another big rain storm. I told Nanc that since we had a bad weather day today, we’d make tomorrow extra special.
