Today, we made the short 25 minute drive to visit Charlottetown, the capital of Canada’s Prince Edward Island province. We drove south through the middle of the island past lots of rolling pastures, often bordered by white spruce trees and white pine trees. Despite the name, these pines are as lush and green as any I have ever seen. There’s just something about a forest of lush pine trees set against a blue sky……

Once we got to town, we were pretty hungry so we looked for a good lobster restaurant on the water.  We ended up eating at the very well known “Lobster on the Wharf Restaurant”.  Nancy had fish and chips and I had another lobster roll.  Despite it’s popularity, we felt like the food was only so-so. Too much batter on the fish, and not enough flavor in the lobster roll. On the plus side, my Bloody Mary was really tasty, the view was great, and we had very good service.  If we went back, we’d both go for the real thing…..a lobster tail with some sides (and a Bloody Mary!).

With rare exceptions, I love all seafood, cooked or uncooked. Nancy likes seafood as well, but unless its sushi, she wants it cooked. I’m sure we’ll eat lots of good seafood while we are here. But if we can get live and boiled lobster at a bargain price, I’d say we’ll be eating a fair amount of lobster over the next few weeks. Also, PEI mussells are some of the best mussels in the world. There’s a place close by that has “all-you-can-eat” mussels dinner……we”ll definitely be checking that place out before we leave.

After lunch, we took a walk along a waterfront shopping area. It was a very nice day so their were lots of  tourists walking around.  We picked up a magnet for the fridge, but never really saw anything else that interested us. We stopped by the beautiful St. Dunstan’s Basilica Cathedral. It’s really an impressive and beautiful church with lots of old ornate architecture and beautiful stained glass.

We got back around 5pm…..believe it or not, we got caught in some rush hour traffic. But once we got past that, it was another short, beautiful drive back to Alice.

Tomorrow, we’re planning to go to Cavendish Beach in the PEI National Park. We’ll probably find a place for another lobster roll, even if it’s just a mid afternoon snack!

Amen….
