August 1 – August 3, 2019
August 1 – We hung around home today and took a nice hike along a stream that runs behind the Twin Mountain RV Resort. Like many of the other streams and rivers in this area, the stream supports a healthy trout population. The weather was spectacular. Later, the RV tech called to advise that Alice’s replacement parts had arrived……he also wanted to know if it was ok to do the repair first thing the next day. Of course, we said no problem.
August 2 – the RV tech arrived right on time at 8am and had the replacement parts for our leveling system installed and ready to go by 9am. If you ever need service in the White Mountains areas of NH, we highly recommend Dean’s RV Service.
We hit the road at about 9:30, and we didn’t arrive in Oak Bay, New Brunswick, until 4pm (which was actually 5pm since we had entered The Atlantic time zone). Unfortunately, the drive from upstate New York going east into NH was on the kind of roads that we really try to avoid. The roads were technically drivable with a RV or tractor trailer…..but they were two lanes, primarily undivided. I had to concentrate on my driving even more than normal. The roads really improved once we got close to the border. We passed through Customs and made the short drive to Oak Bay campground. It was a long day and we were both relieved to finally get parked again.
August 3 – today we drove about 15 miles south to St. Andrews, a coastal city in New Brunswick on the end of a peninsula. It really looks like the quintessential fishing village. There are plenty of activities for tourists, including whale watching and charter fishing. The downtown area had lots of quaint shops, as well as cafe’s and restaurants with fresh seafood (among other menu items). We picked a nice place on the water for lunch and since we were in “lobster country”, we hoped they would have a good lobster roll. We talked to our waiter and she confirmed that, in fact, they are known for their lobster rolls. We each ordered one and it was absolutely delicious. I look forward to a few more while we are in Canada and New England!
St. Andrews
The next 4 pictures show how much the tide rose in about 2.5 hours. The difference between low and high tides is much greater than down south. But not near as dramatic as we’ll see at the Bay of Fundy!
Wonder how that worked out…
We both loved our first lobster roll lunch in Canada!
Tomorrow we’re moving Alice to the Cymbria Campground on the east coast of Prince Edward Island……we’ll be there for 8 days.
When your driving in a rolling earthquake, you’ve got expect things to happen. It’s well worth the trouble to have your home with you in such beautiful places!
I bet you are about ready to get rid of thehouse on wheels. Sounds like a maintenance nightmare
