A rocky start to the granite state

July 29, 2019

This morning, we packed up, got all ready to leave, hooked up Alice, hit the “retract all” switch for the levelers and guess what……nothing moved. Ugh! So I got on the phone with the manufacturer of the hydraulic lift system (Lippert) and after 1/2 hour or so, their tech confirmed that I had a faulty hydraulic pump motor and solenoid. He confirmed that by having me lightly tap on the side of the motor….when I did that, the pump activated. So we were at least able to get the landing gear back up so we could travel. We drove the short 164 miles, including a 20 minute ferry ride across Lake Champlain, to the Twin Mountain Motor Lodge and RV Resort in Twin Mountain, NH.  We got in to our site by 3pm. Once we arrived, I called a local repair company Nancy found near us. Boy did we get lucky…..the  service facility worked direct with our extended warranty company and had everything approved in an hour or so. Parts will be here by Thursday and they will install them the same day. What a great service experience (so far)!

Being all ready to go and then having a last minute problem was frustrating. When things break, it just seems like it creates a lot more inconvenience, hassle and tension than it does when you have a problem at your house.  It’s hard to find good repair facilities with competent technicians that can handle your repair in a reasonable timeframe.  We got lucky this time.

I still haven’t quite figured out to just laugh these things off as just “part of the adventure” and roll with it. When you drive a rolling house down the road for thousands of miles, you should expect to have some problems. You just need a little patience…..I’m working on it…lol

We’re looking forward to exploring the White Mountains this week.
