We finally hit the road yesterday morning around 10am after a 11 day delay from our planned start date of July 7th. We really enjoyed our stay at the Wright Patterson AFB RV camp. The sites were very clean, and the people were great…..there’s a quiet connection you feel with everyone as a result of your shared connection to military service. We ended up staying a few days longer than planned and really enjoyed the time to relax and visit with friends (golfing biking, meals, etc.) before we left. We look forward to staying at several other military RV parks in the coming months.
Shortly after we arrived at the WP site, we were fortunate to get a referral to two RV techs that do “house calls” after hours on base…..a retired AF NCO and his partner (so they have the required access credentials). Since I wasn’t making progress fast enough through our dealer on the ac repair, we contacted these guys on Saturday and they agreed to come over Sunday night to troubleshoot our ac unit and confirm the problem. They were there for over an hour and collected all the needed information to support a warranty claim for a new ac unit. They worked it through the ac unit manufacturer (Dometic) and had a warranty replacement installed by that Friday night. To say this was an outstanding service experience is an profound understatement. We could not have received more professional and courteous service!
We’re excited to be back on the road, and starting our 2019 adventure to the northeastern US, and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Yesterday, we stopped at about 2pm at the Willow Lake Campground at Geneva-On-The-Lake, OH. We got setup, drove through the quaint, lake resort town and then visited four different wineries….we paced ourselves, had a lot of fun, and still maintained our sobriety! But since we stayed so long at the first place, The Ferrante Winery and Ristorante, only one of the next three was open when we dropped in shortly after 6pm. So we sampled some wine at The Hundley Cellers, and returned to the Ferrante Ristiorante where we enjoyed a fabulous meal. It was a great first day!

Today (Friday, 7/19), we drove to Waterloo, NY, in upstate New York which is located in the Finger Lakes Region. Geographically, it reminds me a lot of Ohio…. except that it’s a little more hilly and, believe it or not, it seems to have a lot more dead ash trees. We got in to the Waterloo Harbor Resort at about 2:30pm. We got Alice set up, relaxed, had dinner, relaxed some more (and wrote this), and retired. We’re looking forward to exploring the Finger Lakes area for a few days before heading up to Lake Placid and the Adirondacks.
Adios…
How did Nancy get on the base LOL
