10/22/2018 – Pensacola
Today Nancy and I went over to one of golf courses at the Naval Air Station – Pensacola (NAS-P). I played and Nancy drove the cart. It was a lot of fun. On about the 5th hole, we caught up with a guy playing as a single and we joined up for the rest of the round. Derrick is a recently retired Navy Chief. He told me he was 47 years old with no plans to go back to work. His wife is an active duty Master Sargent and he joined her for a two week training class she has at the NAS-P.
The golf course was very nice with several holes running in and around the water…..and Nancy did an outstanding job driving the cart! Derrick is here until next week so we made plans to play another round this Wednesday morning. The Blue Angels are practicing again on Wednesday afternoon so we may hear and see them overhead during the round.
After golf, Nancy and I went to The Oarhouse, a local seafood restaurant, for dinner. It was recommended by the attendants in the golf shop and it was excellent. It’s a very fun restaurant/bar overlooking the water and a nice marina with a large outdoor bar/eating area and sand volleyball.
We hope to get a prime viewing spot to watch the Blue Angels practice tomorrow. Pensacola Naval Station is their home base and from everything we have heard, watching the Blue Angels practice is pretty darn exhilarating! We also plan to visit the Naval Air Museum….it should be really interesting to see the history of naval aviators.
Today’s sunrise…..
