9/12/2018 – Park City (last day)
Had a slow day today. We drove into Salt Lake to pick up some food items from Costco and get an oil change at Jiffy Lube. Nancy also returned a couple decorative items she had picked up at TJ Max that ended not “fitting in” as well as she had hoped.
Salt Lake City has really grown since the last time I was here. One of the of results is a lot more haze and smog in the low valley area that includes Salt Lake City. But the city still has a lot more positives than negatives. The weather has been sunny every day and there are lots of beautiful mountain backdrops when driving around. There are also lots of ski resorts within 45 minutes on downtown (as most skiers know, Utah “powder” is legendary), and a well developed network of trails for road bikes, mountain bikes, snowmobiles, cross country skiing, and hikers. If you are staying/living in one of the mountain towns, like Park City, the high temps during the day are at least 10 degrees cooler than SLC. Nancy and I agree that this is one of the few states we would consider moving tp…..there’s just so much beauty and recreational opportunity here.
The best part of our day was sitting around later in the evening and talking with our neighbors, Bob and Radine (Ray). They just sold their house in Salt Lake and are now “full timing”until at least next May. They have really prepared their fifth wheel for the winter. They have a home in St. George but are not sure if they will be moving there next year, or staying in SLC for a while longer until they retire. They’re an adventurous couple that shared with us how much fun this area is in the winter……among other things, they snowmobile and ride fat tire bikes in the snow. Wish we could have had more time to spend with them. We plan to stay in touch and hopefully we’ll have a chance to meet up with them in the future.
That’s all for today…..heading to Moab tomorrow morning.
