Olympic Village, “Park Silly”

9/9/2018 – Park City, UT

Really had a great first day in Park City.  First thing this morning, we headed to the Park City Olympic Village, the site for many of the events at the 2002 Winter Olympics e.g. ski jumping, bobsled track. The complex continues to be a training center for aspiring Olympic athletes.  I can sure see why…..it’s has some fantastic training facilities. The only training that we saw today were a few people doing aerial ski tricks from the lowest jump. We plan to go back Tuesday to watch some folks practicing aerial ski tricks from the highest and steepest jumps. The jumpers all land in a large swimming pool that churns the water a certain way to soften the landing.

The park has been expanded to include some other outdoor activities like a elevated rope obstacle course, extreme tubing, a rock climbing wall and a zip line. These are all available for use by the general public on a scheduled basis. The other facilities can also be used on a limited basis. It’s really a great recreational resource for the local community and visitors to the area.  Before we left, we also toured the visitor center and museum.

Next, we went to downtown Park City to take Nancy’s bike in for a new handlebar and grips. The handlebar she got from the guy in Flathead Lake, MT, was just too short. We dropped it off for repair and headed to downtown Park City to go to “Park Silly”….an event that happens every Sunday from June – September.  The main street downtown is closed, and there are lots of vendor tents selling  fruits and veggies, jewelry, and all of the other arts and crafts you typically see at a Farmers Market.  There was also live music. It was nice that all of the other downtown main street shops, art studios and restaurants were also open. We walked around the shops and vendor tents, grabbed some lunch at the Wasatch Brew Pub, and headed back to pickup Nancy’s bike. The only purchases were a Park City magnet for the frig and  some bike jerseys Nancy picked up that were marked down 75%. She’s pretty frugal so I was glad to see her get so excited about getting such a great deal.

We headed home around 3pm and stayed put the rest of the day. Tomorrow’s another day of adventure…..
