9/6/2018 – Jackson Hole
Today, we took a great 2 hour horseback ride up into the Grand Teton NP with our friends Sue and Peter. The outfitter we used was the Heart 6 Ranch in Moran, WY. We took the scenic route on the way to the ranch hoping to catch a view of some wildlife, especially a moose or bear. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any animals….but it was a very nice drive. We got to the Heart 6 Ranch a little early so we got to hang out with some of the ranch hands for a while and meet our horses. We brought a bunch of carrots with us and all the horses except mine really seemed to enjoy them. My horse, Critter, had no interest in my carrot offering at all.
We were the only ones on our ride, which was led by a very nice ranch hand named Katy. Overall, it was peaceful, quiet, and beautiful ride through some fantastic scenery. A good portion of the ride was uphill into the mountains…..including about 900 ft of elevation gain. It would have been a very strenuous hike on foot. It was also a fairly warm day today which created hazy skies by later in the day.
Although we were only riding horses, after 2 hours of riding, all of us were surprisingly tired. It was quiet ride home. We took the same drive back to Teton Village hoping we might see some wildlife but once again, we didn’t see anything. Nancy and I are going to go out early tomorrow to see if we can see a moose. While we were in Yellowstone, the workers told us that a lot of the moose and bear population had moved closer to Teton as a result of all the fires in Yellowstone the past few years. Also, there have been lots of sightings of both moose and bears in the Tetons. Hopefully we’ll see some in the early morning.
While we were in Yellowstone, we made a point of finding a couple nice walking sticks for hikes. Once we found a couple good ones, I carved down the bark and branch nubs to make them reasonably smooth. When we got home tonight, I finished sanding them. So far, they look pretty darn nice. Nancy cooked hot dogs on the grill for dinner…..IMO, there’s still not much I like better than a good grilled hot dog with mustard and onions!
Nancy had fun today but it was obvious she was still fighting her cold, especially sinus congestion. Hopefully the decongestants she is tasking will clear things over the next couple days. I sure hope so….
Great shot of the Tetons on the way to the Heart 6 Ranch
The urban cowboy……
It was a great ride, but we were all glad we didn’t do more than 2 hours!
What great fun!
Way to go city slicker. You can’t get anybody or anything to eat out of your hand. Bet Nancy has you eating out of hers!
