9/5/2018 – Jackson Hole
Today was another great day. Nancy still has a cold but after a restful morning, she insisted on getting out and seeing more of Jackson Hole. We took a 14 mile bike ride into Jackson Hole and explored downtown. Jackson Hole has an outstanding bike trail system that circles around the Jackson Hole and Teton Village area, with other trails to Wilson, Moose Junction, and the Grand Teton National Park and Jenny Lake. Most of the trail system is paved and very wide. And of course, you have the spectacular scenery all around you. It was a great ride.
We stopped at Sidewinders on the way home for a light lunch. Nancy and I split a sandwich and fries…..the food was outstanding! Sidewinders is owned by a former fellow Marine pilot/classmate (Joe) of our friend Jerry. He and his wife Teresa asked us to checkout his restaurant and send some pictures, including any aviator memorabilia…….especially anything related to the Lancers, their squadron. We asked if his friend (Joe) was there and were told he wasn’t. However, we did talk to his daughter. We asked her to tell her dad (Joe) that one of his old squadron members, Jerry, said hi. She was happy to do that.
We rode home and relaxed a while before heading out to meet up with our friends Sue and Peter at their hotel in Teton Village. They had purchased Gondola tickets that were good all day and offered them to us if we wanted to go up…….we thought about it for about 2 seconds and said heck yes! Thank you Sue and Peter! The views were incredible! It was another clear day and you could see for miles!
The Tram takes you up to the top of Rendezvous Mountain, which is also the highest point of the Jackson Hole Mountain Ski Resort. The tram is 12,463 feet in length. It starts in Teton Village at an altitude of 6,311 feet, and climbs 4139 feet in about 9 minutes. The altitude at the top is 10,450 ft. (almost 2 miles high!) We took a few pictures and then returned to visit with Sue and Peter and have some dinner.
We ended up having dinner at one of the restaurants in the Four Seasons Hotel…… the Westbank Grill. Nancy and I had split a sandwich at Sidewinders in Jackson Hole earlier in the day so by dinnertime, I was really hungry. Peter and I decided to get 18 ounce Bison Cowboy Ribeye’s, and the ladies had beef filets. I must admit I was a little hesitant about getting bison, mainly because when I’m really hungry, I don’t like to take chances on getting something I may not like. But Peter twisted my arm a little and I decided to go for it. I’m so glad I did……it was delicious! We also shared a few sides with our steaks and topped it all off by sharing two great deserts. Great food, great friends, and all in a stunningly beautiful place……what more could you ask for!
After a meal like that, I have to find a chair…..fast! LOL We got home at about 8:30 and I started writing the blog post. Nancy walked Frisco, took some medicine and went to bed to get some rest. She felt a little better today but she is still sick with sinus congestion and a little sore throat. Hopefully she will feel better tomorrow.
