Slower day today

After two very busy days, we stayed closer to home today until later in the afternoon when we went fishing on the Madison River below the Hebgen Lake Dam. I took care of some business here at home…..Nancy did the laundry and then took a bike ride. She ended up riding about 15 miles along some very nice bike/snowmobile paths in the park. We went for a shorter bike ride later in the day before heading to the river to fish.

The ride past Hebgen Lake to the other side of the dam was really  scenic. We drove a little past our fishing spot to see Earthquake lake, before circling back to a parking spot on the river. I fished for about an hour until it started getting too dark. The river lies between some mountains…..so even though it was only about 6pm, it was very hard to see the dry flies on the water surface. But at least I got some good casting practice with my new fly rod and reel, and the setting was absolutely beautiful.

Frisco took a little swim but discovered the current was a little too strong to venture very far from shore (of course, we were keeping a close eye on her!)

We made some great crab cakes for dinner and started getting things ready to leave in the morning. We are heading south to Jackson Hole and want to get there by noon since we are meeting some friends there (they arrived today). We are really looking forward to Jackson Hole…..several people have told us they saw bears and moose in the northern part of the Teton park.

Nancy finally got her picture next to one of the Yellowstone entrance signs!
