8/18/2018 – Polson, MT
Today we drove around Flathead Lake and spent some time exploring downtown Big Fork, MT. The lake and the Mission Mountain range was a little clearer this morning but by mid afternoon, it was very hazy/smoky again. We did some Zillow research and found that the housing and land around here is really expensive. Basically, anything on the lake front is $500K and up. We drove around the west side of the lake and stopped at the Flathead Lake Brewing Co. for a drink and some lunch. We got the smoked salmon dip as an appetizer (it was so-so….too much cream cheese and not enough salmon) and then split a bowl of clam chowder and a turkey ciabatta sandwich. Overall, it was a very good lunch. Then we headed over to explore downtown Big Fork. It’s a very small, quaint little town with lots of art shops and quite a few new pubs and restaurants. I decided I needed another huckleberry shake and Nancy had a ice cream cone. I also got a few pieces of huckleberry taffy. After we finished looking around Big Fork, we decided to go back over to the Big Fork Brewery before heading back to Polson. Nancy drove back. She is now a lot more comfortable driving the truck which is nice because I get a little tired of driving sometimes. We stopped at Walmart for a couple of items and were back at the RV by 6:30.
We want to get an early start to Gardiner, Montana tomorrow so we went ahead and did some of the departure prep tonight. It will be about a 6 hour drive. Looking forward to our next 3 weeks in Yellowstone and Jackson Hole.
Flathead Lake…. the smoke is really causing very poor visibility right now
