A good golf day, no Bighorns, and a brief scare

8/2/2018

Radium Hot Springs is a very small, quiet, picturesque town just on the south side of the Kootenay National Forest. We just heard that the entire forest is now closed due to the fire that caused us to detour around it yesterday (no smoke here). RHS is also home to a herd of Bighorn sheep that can often be seen roaming the streets and the two local golf courses. There are flashing signs on the 2 major roads that intersect here warming motorists of their presence.  We hope to see these impressive looking animals and get a few pics while we are here.

I played golf this morning at a very nice club, Radium Springs, and Nancy did a little exploring around town. Unfortunately, I did not see any Bighorns. Nancy saw a huge, local lumber mill on her bike ride and she stopped to see if we could get a tour. She’s following up tomorrow to see if that can be arranged while we’re here……could be very interesting. I’m really hoping to do some fishing here if I can get a guide. We also plan to visit the natural hot springs to soak in some of that “miracle water” that supposedly has some health benefits.

This evening around 8, Nancy decided to take a hike to the Sinclair Falls and Radium Hot Springs Lodge. It turned out to be more difficult and further than she anticipated. She called a little panicked because she was pretty far out and it was getting dark. I told her to start back the same way she came and I’d hike towards her and we’d meet and walk back. By the time I found the right path, she was coming across the bridge back into the RV park.  It was the oncoming darkness that scared her a little but all turned out ok.

Frisco’s new friend….an 11 week old St. Bernard puppy.

Thankfully, Nancy’s shoulder is doing much better. I started feeling a little sick this afternoon (sinus) but I’m hoping the Claritin-D I took will nip it in the bud.

She went hiking by herself…again?? I’d feel a lot better if my friend’s husband would go with her in areas where there are bears and mountain lions.
