We stayed close to home today. We were supposed to move to a creek side site for our last 5 nights here in Canmore but, unfortunately, the park had a major problem that forced us to stay where we are. One of the sewer lines had a problem that affected 10 sites……one of which was the site we were supposed to move to. And since they were digging up the road to make the repair, and the park was fully booked, the people there had to make a decision to either stay at their site with water and electric only or leave and get a refund. The problem with leaving was there was no place to go. There are no other full service RV Parks in Canmore, and likely none within 50 miles that have any openings. We actually considered moving to another park but could not find anything available. This really is the peak of the summer vacation season in this area.
Since we were already here in a pre-paid site, and could not move due to construction, they had to find another place for the people coming into our site. The problem was, every site was reserved. So you have everyone already here in the affected sites that are pretty darn upset, and some people with reservations arriving today that could not be accommodated. What a mess!
This all started this morning about the time we were supposed to move. I happened to be in the office asking about the road work that had started (which would prevent from getting into the site) when he filled me in and advised I could not move. We’re grateful that we ultimately were not impacted but of course, we felt bad for those that might not have any place to stay. That’s how everything stood as of about 3pm.
Nancy took a 10 minute bike ride into Canmore and called me after some shopping to ask me to ride over for dinner. We ate at “The Wood”, an outstanding restaurant with nice outside seating. The watermelon salad was one of the best salads I have ever eaten.
Good news! We ran into the Park manager at the restaurant tonight and he said they were able to shuffle some people around and work everything out. A few folks are upset but, based on what he said, it seems nobody ended up with no place to stay ( a few will temporarily have no services). Kudos to the RV park management for figuring out a way to at least get everyone a place to stay.
