We were supposed to have rain today but by 10am it stopped and got sunny again. Overall, our weather has been very nice with temps in the 60’s and 70’s during the day, and the 40’s and 50’s at night. However, the forecast is calling for some rain over the next 3 days with temperatures dropping into the 50’s and 60’s before warming up into 70’s again by Monday.
We hiked The Five Lakes trail today. It was really nice but we had to fight off the mosquitos. When we finished our hike, we went straight to town to buy some high powered mosquito repellent. I hope it works. It’s not much fun being outside when you are a dinner target for these pesky carnivores!
We also visited Jasper Brewery for lunch and a beer, and talked to another outfitter who said the fishing is still good if you know where to go. We plan to give it a shot over the next couple days on the Snake River just outside town. The guides advice was don’t bother unless you go around dawn or around 9pm in the evening, I’ll use a fly rod and set Nancy up with some kind of small spinner bait so she give it try too. We’ll post pics of anything we catch.
Nancy has been enjoying some bike riding but unfortunately, I have not been able to join her. When we got into Calgary, I discovered that my front bike wheel had been damaged/warped when our trailer hit the other trailer in South Dakota. I took it to a bike shop today and despite their best efforts, they were not able to get it back to round. Over the next couple days I hope to find a Trek dealer that can order a new wheel and have it shipped to me in Canmore (that is where we are staying during the time we spend exploring Banff and Lake Louise). The bike riding here is fantastic so I want to get it fixed asap.
We plan to visit the Ice Fields/Glaciers tomorrow. I plan to post some pics of the Glaciers, the town of Jasper and the old Jasper Lodge tomorrow. All for now……
Great account of your travels.
What about renting a bike in Jasper, Rick? It would be a shame if you missed biking because of a damaged wheel.
Try putting dryer sheets in all your pockets (and your bra, Nancy). They work great for fending off mosquitos and are not nearly as gross as putting that spray on your skin.
